Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny

It is not a bad film on its own. Unfortunately, however, it emerged after that great film, and it fails to live up to expectation. The Ang Lee film was something else – the high point of the genre. Nobody could replicate it. I like the sequel, despite its overtly philosophical, ponderous tone, yet I do not care about it much. First because, it is in English. I would have preferred to see the film in subtitles. Second, since it is in English, the characters fail to stand up and be themselves – except Michelle Yeo. She is always great in whatever she does, including being a Bond girl. Donnie Yen looks old and haggard and not at all appealing. The young couple does not have the same fire as the young couple of the original film. Even the action sequence are toned down and pretty standard.
