Happy Together

After he had broken up with his lover, Ho Po-Wing (Leslie Cheung), and made up, and broke up again, and made up again, and broke up again, Lai Yiu-fai (Tony Leung Chiu-Wai), who had followed his lover from Hong Kong to Argentina, finally gives up. He decides to start over, and decides to go see the Iguazu waterfalls, which the lovers had decided to visit together. The point is, Ho Po-Wing wanted more than just one monogamous relationship, and that was the reason they broke up. Now, alone and lonely, Lai Yiu-fai visits the public toilet, as single gay men must, and muses how all lonely people are the same. Heartbreaking. From Wong Kar-wai’s 1997 masterpiece ‘Happy Together’.
