The Monuments Men is an upcoming American drama film co-written, produced and directed by George Clooney and starring Matt Damon, Clooney, and Cate Blanchett. Based on the book The Monuments Men: Allied Heroes, Nazi Thieves and the Greatest Treasure Hunt in History by Robert M. Edsel, the film will concern the story of the Monuments, Fine Arts, and Archives program, an Allied group, tasked with saving pieces of art and other culturally important items before their destruction by Hitler during World War II. The film, set to be co-produced by Columbia Pictures/20th Century Fox and 22. Babelsberg, is scheduled to be released on December 18, 2013.
